Most artists struggle daily with insecurity and doubts. I am one of them. Positive feedback works wonders for the soul.  The above quote was especially touching because the reader isn't "...normally a fan of contemporaries..."  To know that I have been added to this reader's "keeper shelf" touches me beyond words.  Thank you for submitting your thoughts "Isobel".

I was struck by the comment of a reader who has resisted writing to authors whose work she enjoyed because she worried she'd just sound like another "...gushy fan..."  Trust me, dear reader, most authors dream of and would happily welcome gushing fan mail.  In this day and age, when so many people seem eager and willing to publicy gripe and vent, to point out the negative-- kind, heartfelt words are indeed appreciated.  In fact, they're gold. Your expressed pleasure could push an author beyond a week's worth of frustrating 'writers block' or give them the confidence to tackle a daunting story idea. Positive feedback is that powerful.
